The BMW 7-Series E65, E66, E67, E68 is first introduced in 2002 as a flagship luxury sedan. It is BMW’s fourth-generation 7-Series and featured several technological advancements, including iDrive, a new integrated navigation system, and a host of electronic driver aids. The E65 is also notable for its controversial styling, which included the “Bangle Butt” rear-end design. This generation of the 7-Series is produced until 2008 and is available in both short and long-wheelbase versions.

One critical aspect of the BMW 7-Series E65, E66, E67, and E68 is its electrical system. The car comes with various electrical components that are essential for its proper functioning. Among these components are the fuse box and relay, which help to distribute electrical power to various systems in the car. Understanding the fuse box and relay diagrams, as well as their locations, is crucial for maintaining and troubleshooting the car’s electrical system.

Engine and Transmission

The BMW 7-Series E65, E66, E67, and E68 come with a range of engine and transmission options. The base engine is a 3.0-liter inline-six producing 225 horsepower, while the top-of-the-line engine is a 6.0-liter V12 producing 438 horsepower. Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic with manual shifting mode. The car also features BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control, which includes traction control, dynamic traction control, and dynamic brake control.

Fuse Box and Relay Locations

The BMW 7-Series E65, E66, E67, and E68 come with two fuse boxes located in the glove box and the trunk. The glove box fuse box houses the fuses for various systems, including the climate control system, navigation system, and audio system. The trunk fuse box contains the fuses for the car’s battery and the rear power distribution box.

The car also has several relays located in different positions. The relays control various systems, including the air conditioning compressor, radiator fan, fuel pump, and windshield wipers. The relays are located in the power distribution box in the trunk, behind the passenger’s rear seat, and under the hood near the battery.

WARNING

  • Never replace a fuse with one that has a higher amperage rating.
  • A fuse with a too-high amperage could damage the electrical part and cause a fire.
  • On no account should fuses be repaired (e.g. patched up with tin foil or wire) as this may cause serious damage elsewhere in the electrical circuit or cause a fire.
  • If a fuse blows repeatedly, do not keep replacing it. Instead, have the cause for the repeated short circuit or overload tracked and fixed.
